Ever since I was a little girl, I have been picking up a bridal magazine to get inspiration. Before pinterest, that was our only source of inspiration and I still find it to be one my favorite ways to get creative. As much as I love blogs I find that the best of the best is in print so today I wanted to share my favorite magazines that inspire me most. As a creative entrepreneur you have to constantly be on top of the trends. I love styled shoots most because it gives me a chance to freely get creative and work on styles that I wouldn’t normally do at a wedding. The best part is I carry over new techniques of shooting and styling over to my weddings so as much as I benefit from the styled shoots, my brides do too! Here are a few of my favorite magazines and why.
Flutter Magazine. I found Flutter magazine last year and I immediately fell in love. I loved the aesthetic of the the magazine, the editorial pieces were well written and it was just plain pretty to look at. Flutter Magazine is a quarterly print publication that focuses on couture wedding and event artistry. There is an astrology edition, honeymoon edition and fashion to table edition. Flutter also has an amazing blog with a ton of amazing events published on there, well worth the follow! I also love that they prefer Film photos, makes for an even better quality of photos in the magazine.
Trendy Bride. I had seen Trendy Bride in Barnes & Noble but it wasn’t until this year that I picked up a copy and I just loved it. She doesn’t publish only film but it seems like she definitely loves film as much as we do. Just a little bit from their about page, “Trendy Bride is more than just a wedding blog. Its focus centers on finding the most refreshing, original and exclusive wedding ideas from around the world. With its keen focus on real weddings, styled shoots and the most alluring and relevant fashion finds, Trendy Bride blog is an incomparable resource for brides marrying in 2015 or dreaming of wedding bells in the future.”
Cottage Hill. For the fine art lover, Cottage Hill is the magazine & blog for you. The publication is gorgeous, the blog is inspirational and the ladies I’ve worked with there are just plain sweet. They release one magazine a year in the fall. They feature three chapters full of lifestyle photos, engagements and weddings, family, home and community. ” As the original lifestyle and wedding publication, we believe in sharing stories that inspire wholehearted living.” I love that little excerpt from their about page, I couldn’t have said it better.
Southern Weddings. I have been smitten with this magazine & blog ever since I picked up my first copy in a Barnes & Noble while sipping my white mocha. Its been a dream of mine to be in this magazine and I’m just waiting for the day when I can hit submit & get accepted. We recently applied to be a Blue Ribbon and I’m so thrilled that we have been approved and we will be one of their official BRV! Southern weddings is one of my favorite true wedding magazines & blogs. The ladies that work at SW are sweet, classy & true southern girls. Lara Casey is one my all time favorite women, she’s been an inspiration to me for years and I love her testimony and character. Here is a little bit more about their magazine- “Southern Weddings Magazine is the South’s premier publication for the modern bride. From bow ties to biscuits, monograms to mason jars, we preserve the best of the past while celebrating the true heart of a wedding – the marriage at its center. In all that we do, our mission is to inspire brides to cultivate a life full of love — celebrating their families, the culture of the South, and what matters most to them — and then to draw from that rich well to create a meaningful beginning to married life.” I just love that!
Martha Stewart Weddings. Who doesn’t love a good copy of Martha Stewart? I know I do! I can’t go on a long car trip without Martha! I love her magazines & blogs because they come from a place of class, sophistication and so much elegance. Its one of my faves because you just cannot go wrong!
Belle Lumiere. This is one of my favorite all film publications. When we first started shooting film, Belle lumiere was our go to source of inspiration. It was a learning curve and I love that Lexie has given us photographers a source of education, inspiration & just beautiful photos to look at. I love that there is a mix of real weddings, styled shoots, lifestyle and much more.
There are obviously so many amazing magazines & blogs out there but these were just a few of my favorites. Because I shoot real weddings with real brides, I love that these are full of just that and some editorial shoots. I love seeing photographers capture real moments and they being such beautiful artistry mixed in. Cannot wait to see one of our very own weddings featured in these pages one day!
