Have you ever wanted something so bad that you could almost tasted it? That was me on Sunday while hiking up this mountain to see a waterfall… I thought to myself “this waterfall better be amazing or I’m kicking my husband in the shin”. I must admit, it was so worth the sweat, blisters and the nausea…. yes nausea! Leave it to a hike up a mountain to tell you what bad shape you’re in. Jeremy and Kristin asked us to shoot their wedding days after they got engaged, technically we had the heads up right before they got engaged but no matter what we were not going to miss a chance to get out of Ohio. Coty and I honeymooned in the Dominican Republic, and it was there that we decided that we wanted to start this business together. Since then we hadn’t gotten a chance to get away so when this chance to go to Utah came about, we decided we wanted to stay a couple days to relax and get our minds off work. I don’t know if it was the low humidity or the mountain air but Coty and I haven’t talked that much and gotten along that well in so long! I told him that if hiking made us this sweet then I’d hike everyday! I can’t believe after just two days of rest we’d make so many changes. For one we’ve decided to only shoot together next year. We already have a couple weddings booked that are one photographer so we’ll still book separately those days but other than that we will only shoot together. Reason behind that is that we love to shoot together! We love having that aspect of a husband and wife team shooting the wedding. Whats the point of putting ourselves out there as a husband and wife team and we shoot individually? So that was the biggest change we made. Second change we are so excited about doing is our packages. For so long we’ve had 4 set packages and 99% of our couples were customizing the packages so we did away with them. We now have a set package for our clients, its the no matter what you always get this kind of thing, then from there our clients design their own package just for them and their wedding. We liked our packages that we had before but we’re more than thrilled to hand these over to future clients. Third thing we are working on is portraits…finally! We have this fabulous studio that we spent a ton of time on that we only use for client meetings and the occasional session, so we’ve felt the need to get some work out of it. I cannot wait to see where God takes us when we start advertising for portraits.
Its a dream of mine to shoot weddings but to also photograph life after the “I do’s”. I think since Coty and I have been married over two years and since then we’ve added two dogs to the Henry family, I start to realize that there is more to life than the big white dress and the tux, flowers and church… life happens after you say “I do”! I want to capture that life, love and laughter!
Since a post is not a post without a couple pictures… here are some shots we got after the hike that almost made me throw up! It was so rewarding in the end but it still gave me blisters!
